The design showcases La Calavera Catrina, a satirical depiction of an elegant skeleton, often adorned with flowers and fine attire, symbolizing the acceptance of death as a natural part of life. This artwork is deeply rooted in Mexican folk art and the Día de los Muertos celebration, where families honour and remember their deceased loved ones.

Meet the Maker: Artesanías Díaz

Based in Texcoco, Mexico

Artesanías Díaz is a family-run workshop led by two brothers Arturo and Gilberto, where they create stunning Calavera Catrinas alongside both traditional and more contemporary ceramic pieces. Visiting them at their home was a real privilege – we shared food, a little tequila, and came away with the beginnings of a great collection of crucifixes, incense holders and Aztec masks and plaques.
