About this product

This captivating black Catrina ceramic figure is full of dark elegance and Día de los Muertos drama. Dressed in a sweeping black gown and crowned with her iconic wide-brimmed hat adorned with feathers and flowers, she cuts a striking silhouette — every detail picked out in warm gold against the deep matte black, from her jewellery to the delicate bones of her skeletal form. A beautifully moody display piece at any scale.

The Catrina originated as a satirical illustration by José Guadalupe Posada in the early 20th century, later immortalised by Diego Rivera as a symbol of Mexican identity, mortality, and dark humour. She has since become the defining icon of Día de los Muertos — a celebration of life, remembrance, and the enduring bond between the living and the dead. Read more about the history of La Calavera Catrina on our blog.

Handmade with care in a small family workshop on the outskirts of Texcoco, Mexico, this one-of-a-kind Catrina ceramic supports local artisans and their communities. Siesta Crafts' commitment to Fair Trade ensures that this unique piece is produced ethically, with respect for both the environment and the people involved. Each Catrina is entirely individual, making it a rare and treasured addition to any collection.
