About this product

This exquisite Calavera Catrina ceramic figure is full of drama, elegance, and vibrant Mexican folk art tradition. Standing at an impressive 37cm, every inch of her is adorned with intricate hand-painted detailing — from the delicate florals on her gown to the elaborate decoration of her iconic wide-brimmed hat. A truly show-stopping piece.

The Catrina has her roots in the early 20th century, when Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada created the original skull illustration as a satirical commentary on social class. She was later immortalised by Diego Rivera and has since become one of Mexico's most beloved cultural icons, particularly associated with Día de los Muertos celebrations. Read more about the history of La Calavera Catrina on our blog.

These figures have been handmade with care in a small family workshop on the outskirts of Texcoco, Mexico, this one-of-a-kind Catrina ceramic supports local artisans and their communities. Siesta Crafts’ commitment to Fair Trade ensures that this unique piece is produced ethically, with respect for both the environment and the people involved. Each Catrina is entirely individual, making it a rare and treasured addition to any collection.
