Buddha In Carved Doorway 40cm

This striking 40cm hand carved Lord Buddha sits in serene stillness, framed by an ornate carved doorway or shrine arch that gives the whole composition a sense of sacred space and quiet contemplation.

Here, Lord Buddha is shown with his right hand in the Shuni Mudra ('the Seal of Patience'), which represents accountability for our actions whilst remaining 'patient and pure in the process'. His left hand is held in the Gyan Mudra, Sanskrit for knowledge and wisdom, used to help direct energy and focus. The seated position is the full lotus — feet resting on the thigh of the opposite leg, soles facing upwards — a meditative asana known as Dhyana Asana or Padmasana.
