About this product

Celebrate the playful elegance of Día de los Muertos with this Catrina ceramic—a one-of-a-kind piece full of character and charm. She wears a deep emerald green dress adorned with hand-painted flowers, and her delicate skeletal fingers are finely sculpted. The intricately detailed skull and ornate jewellery showcase the artisan's skill, making her a captivating focal point and a festive touch for Halloween décor.

This piece is lovingly hand-decorated, inspired by the iconic Calavera Catrina imagery which was first made popular by the artist Jose Posada, and then used in Diego Rivera’s vast murals. The figurine captures the whimsical elegance of skeletal figures, reflecting both the joy and reverence of Día de los Muertos. The vibrant colours and detailed accessories celebrate Mexican folk art and the cultural tradition of honouring and remembering loved ones. This is a very rare opportunity to buy a truly exceptional item of Mexican folk art.

Meet the Maker: Artesanías Díaz

Based in Texcoco, Mexico

Artesanías Díaz is a family-run workshop led by two brothers Arturo and Gilberto, where they create stunning Calavera Catrinas alongside both traditional and more contemporary ceramic pieces. Visiting them at their home was a real privilege – we shared food, a little tequila, and came away with the beginnings of a great collection of crucifixes, incense holders and Aztec masks and plaques.
