About this product

Immerse yourself in the vibrant traditions of Día de los Muertos with this Catrina ceramic—a striking piece that brings the spirit of the Day of the Dead into your home. Handcrafted in a small family workshop on the outskirts of Texcoco, Mexico, this figurine features a colourful floral dress and intricate details. The delicate skeletal fingers and finely detailed elements highlight the exceptional skill and care poured into every piece, making it a captivating addition to any collection and a festive complement to Halloween décor.

This piece is meticulously hand-decorated, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Mexico. The design is inspired by the iconic Calavera Catrina artwork featured in Diego Rivera's murals, celebrating the playful elegance of skeletal figures. The figure embodies La Calavera Catrina, a satirical depiction of an elegant skeleton, often adorned with flowers and fine attire, symbolising the acceptance of death as a natural part of life.

Handmade in a small family workshop near Texcoco, Mexico, this figurine supports local artisans and their communities. Siesta Crafts' commitment to Fair Trade principles ensures that these pieces are produced ethically, with respect for both the environment and the people involved in their creation. By choosing this figurine, you're not only adding a beautiful piece of art to your collection but also supporting sustainable craftsmanship.

Meet the Maker: Artesanías Díaz

Based in Texcoco, Mexico

Artesanías Díaz is a family-run workshop led by two brothers Arturo and Gilberto, where they create stunning Calavera Catrinas alongside both traditional and more contemporary ceramic pieces. Visiting them at their home was a real privilege – we shared food, a little tequila, and came away with the beginnings of a great collection of crucifixes, incense holders and Aztec masks and plaques.
