About this product

This ceramic wall plaque depicts the seated figure of Pacal the Great in relief, adorned with ceremonial dress, jade ornaments, and the elaborate regalia of Mayan royalty.

Pacal the Great ruled the Mayan city-state of Palenque and is considered one of the most significant rulers in all of Mesoamerican history. His elaborately carved sarcophagus lid — discovered in the Temple of the Inscriptions in 1952 — is among the most celebrated archaeological finds of the 20th century, and the imagery it inspired endures as a powerful symbol of Mayan civilisation at its height.

Handmade in a small family workshop near Texcoco, Mexico, this piece supports local artisans and their communities. Siesta Crafts' commitment to Fair Trade principles ensures that these pieces are produced ethically, with respect for both the environment and the people involved in their creation. By choosing this piece, you're not only adding a beautiful work of art to your collection but also supporting sustainable craftsmanship.
