Batik Wax Note
This handmade item may have traces of wax left over from the batik process. Don't worry — it'll wash off naturally.

Batik FAQs

What is batik?

Batik is a centuries-old Indonesian textile art. Artisans draw designs onto fabric with hot wax, then dye the cloth. The wax resists the dye, leaving intricate patterns behind once it's removed. Every batik piece in our Bali range is made this way by hand.

How should I wash my batik clothing?

We recommend a cool hand wash to keep the colours at their best. Avoid bleach and tumble drying. Line dry in the shade to keep the colours vibrant, and iron inside out if needed. Washing separately for the first couple of washes is a good idea in case of any colour run.

Why does my new batik item have small wax marks?

Small traces of wax sometimes remain from the batik-making process. They're completely harmless and wash out naturally in the first wash or two. It's a nice reminder that your item is genuinely handmade rather than mass-produced.
