About this product

This simple yet striking necklace features a hand-carved soapstone cross pendant, suspended on an adjustable cord. It’s a meaningful piece of jewellery that blends faith, culture, and craft into one wearable item.

Soapstone holds spiritual significance in many African cultures, and crosses like these are often worn for protection or as symbols of peace and faith. The handcarved nature of the Kenyan soapstone gives each pendant a unique character, and the lightweight, smooth feel makes it easy to wear daily.

Carved by hand in Kenya, these necklaces are made by artisan groups that specialise in soapstone jewellery. Your purchase supports ethical production and helps sustain traditional carving skills.

Meet the maker : Omondi

Based in Kibera, Nairobi

Omondi Jewellery is a small workshop based in Kibera, Nairobi – one of Africa's largest informal settlements - and is owned and run by Ishmael Omondi. He lived on the streets before being trained in the art of bone jewellery making through a project run by Zuri Design. Using recycled brass and bone, he creates a beautiful and distinctive range of jewellery, with his long term goal being to expand his team and provide fair employment opportunities to others from Kibera.
