Plain Damru
About this product
The damru is one of the oldest and most sacred percussion instruments in Hindu and Tibetan tradition — and this plain, beautifully crafted version lets the instrument speak entirely for itself. Held by the waist and rotated between the palms, the two beaded cords strike the skin heads on each side to produce a rapid, hypnotic double beat that is as meditative as it is musical.
In Hindu mythology the damru is the instrument of Shiva, its two-headed form representing the dual nature of creation and destruction, sound and silence. Used in ritual, ceremony, and devotional practice for thousands of years, it carries a depth of meaning that makes it far more than just a percussion instrument. At 10cm high it is compact and portable.
Handmade in Bali, Indonesia, this piece has been sourced through Fair Trade principles, and by purchasing this product you are supporting small scale artisans and keeping traditional craft techniques alive.
