About this product

This traditional style ceramic figure is thought to represent a deity from the ancient Zapotec culture, a civilisation said to have survived in various forms over a thousand years, and once located in what is now central Mexico. The pre-Colombian figure is depicted seated cross-legged and due to its hollow design, thought to have been potentially used as a urn.

Meet the maker

Armando produces traditional 'barro' style pottery from his small workshop in Texcoco. We first encountered Armando and the Balderas market in Mexico City as he sold his wares to the stall holders. We've since visited his home, shared some sudadero tacos and developed a whole range of beautifully rustic ceramic pieces together.
