Hooting Owl - Large

This large hooting owl blower is a hand-carved wooden sound instrument that produces a clear "twit-twoo" owl call when blown. With its larger size and bold carved features, it offers a more substantial feel in the hand while still functioning as a simple, playable sound toy and decorative object.

Carved from Rain Tree wood, these owl whistles are made in a village located around an hour outside Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. The making process is divided between different households, with each specialising in a particular stage of production — from block cutting and shaping through to detailing and sanding — helping sustain traditional craft skills across the community.

Once carved, the owls are transported to Chiang Mai for painting and finishing. Ethically sourced and handmade throughout, every large owl blower displays natural variation in carving and finish, giving each piece its own character and individuality.
