About this product
Recycled Newspaper Pencils (Pack of 3)

These recycled pencils are made by a women's NGO group who aim to improve the economic and educational opportunities for underprivileged women in Nepal. They are cleverly made from old newspaper sheets that are compressed and then wrapped incredibly tightly around a pencil lead.

They come wrapped as a set of three with a decorative ribbon. Due to their recycled nature every pencil will be unique making this an even more special gift.

The set of pencils makes for the perfect gift for the artist, writer, journal keeper or even aspiring journalist in your life! A thoughtful and ethical stationery item, certain to bring some recycled joy.

Meet the maker

Our newspaper pencils are made by a team of women headed by Ghelu Roka in Kathmandu, Nepal. Ghelu began making these amazing pencils with the group Women's Dreams.

Founded by Sudha Basnet around 2012, the group was based in Kathmandu with the intention of bringing financial independence and support to the women who worked there. We were lucky enough to go and visit them back in 2016 at their headquarters. Unfortunately, the group is no longer active, but several members have since branched off and started their own group, bringing with them the skills they learnt at Women's Dreams.
