About this product

This double chalice singing bowl is a rare and visually striking form within the world of handmade Himalayan bowls. It consists of two separate metal singing bowls mounted at either end of a finely turned wooden stem, creating an elegant hourglass-like silhouette. Each bowl is individually crafted from a traditional alloy of metals and produces its own distinct, sustained tone. When used together, they create a richly layered soundscape that is well suited to sound healing sessions, meditation practice, or as a grounding ritual at the beginning or end of the day.

Double chalice bowls — sometimes referred to as hourglass or double-bell bowls — are among the more unusual forms found within the Himalayan singing bowl tradition. Unlike standard bowls that produce a single fundamental tone, this form offers two separate resonant voices. The bowls remain acoustically independent; the wooden central stem serves purely as a structural element rather than a conductor of sound. When both bowls are played, their tones interact in the surrounding space, creating shifting harmonics and complementary overtones that change depending on which bowl is sounded and how they are used in combination. The alloy used here contains silver, gold, copper, iron, tin, lead and zinc, each contributing to the warmth, depth and complexity of the sound. Visible hand-hammering marks on the metal surfaces reflect the traditional methods used in shaping and tuning each bowl.

This piece originates from Nepal, where the craft of making singing bowls has been passed down through generations of skilled artisan metalworkers. Each bowl is hand-hammered rather than machine-cast, ensuring that every example is unique in both appearance and sound. The turned wooden stem is carefully shaped and fitted to hold the two bowls securely while keeping them physically and acoustically separate. Siesta Crafts works with suppliers who source directly from Nepali craftspeople, supporting small-scale artisan production and Fair Trade practices. Bowl No.044 is a one-of-a-kind piece, individually catalogued as part of our curated selection of ethically sourced Himalayan instruments.
