About this product

The double chalice singing bowl is among the rarer forms found in the Himalayan bowl-making tradition. Rather than a single vessel, it comprises two individually crafted metal bowls positioned at opposite ends of a turned wooden stem. Each bowl is made from a traditional seven-metal alloy — including silver, gold, copper, iron, tin, lead and zinc — and voiced to complement the other. When played separately or together, they produce a deep, lingering resonance with evolving overtones that unfold naturally as the sound fades. This makes the instrument particularly suited to sound healing work, chakra balancing, or mindful daily practice.

Often described as hourglass or double-bell bowls, this form offers two independent sonic registers within one balanced object. Each bowl has its own tonal centre, and while the wooden stem functions purely as a structural support, the sounds interact in the surrounding space when both are activated. The result is a broad, harmonically rich sound field that changes according to technique and sequence. The hand-hammered surfaces reflect the traditional shaping process, where repeated hammer strikes influence pitch, sustain and timbre. The seven-metal alloy follows an ancient Himalayan metallurgical lineage, with each metal historically associated with a classical celestial body.

Bowl No.045 was crafted in Nepal by skilled artisan metalworkers working within a long-established tradition. Created using hand-hammering methods rather than modern casting, each bowl is entirely individual in both appearance and sound. This piece was personally selected and catalogued by Siesta Crafts as part of our ethically sourced collection of Himalayan sound tools. We work with suppliers who collaborate directly with Nepali craftspeople and support Fair Trade practices, helping to sustain small-scale, generational craftsmanship.
