About this product

This double chalice singing bowl is an uncommon and thoughtfully balanced piece within the Himalayan sound tradition. Composed of two individually made metal bowls set at either end of a turned wooden stem, it offers a dual-bowl configuration that expands the expressive range of a traditional singing bowl. Each bowl is shaped from a classical seven-metal alloy — silver, gold, copper, iron, tin, lead and zinc — selected for its resonance and tonal richness. The sound is deep, stable and lingering, making it well suited to meditation, sound therapy, or focused contemplative practice.

Often known as hourglass or double-bell bowls, this form provides two distinct tonal sources housed within a single sculptural object. The bowls are tuned to sit comfortably alongside one another while remaining acoustically independent, with the wooden stem acting only as a physical support. When sounded individually or in combination, their voices overlap in the surrounding space, producing subtle harmonic relationships and a sense of movement within the sound field. Hand-hammering marks remain visible across the metal surfaces, reflecting the traditional shaping process used to refine pitch, sustain and texture. The seven-metal alloy follows long-established Himalayan practices, historically connected to planetary symbolism and balance.

Bowl No.047 was crafted in Nepal by artisan metalworkers working within a generational lineage of bowl making. Each bowl is formed entirely by hand rather than through mechanical casting, resulting in a one-of-a-kind instrument with its own tonal character and visual presence. This piece has been individually selected and catalogued by Siesta Crafts as part of our ethically sourced collection of Himalayan sound instruments. We work with suppliers who deal directly with Nepali craftspeople and uphold Fair Trade principles, supporting sustainable, small-scale production.
