About this product

This double chalice singing bowl represents a distinctive and less commonly encountered design within the Himalayan sound-making tradition. Constructed from two separately formed metal bowls mounted at opposite ends of a shaped wooden stem, it offers two complementary tonal voices within a single sculptural form. Each bowl is produced from a traditional seven-metal alloy — silver, gold, copper, iron, tin, lead and zinc — chosen for its resonance and tonal depth. The sound is full-bodied and sustained, with subtle harmonic movement that lends itself well to meditation, sound therapy, or intentional ritual use.

Sometimes referred to as hourglass or double-bell bowls, this format provides a broader sonic range than a single singing bowl alone. Each bowl is tuned independently and remains acoustically separate, with the wooden stem serving solely as a means of support and balance. When sounded in sequence or together, the tones meet and mingle in the surrounding air, producing an evolving interplay of pitch and overtones. The hand-hammered finish visible across both bowls reflects a traditional shaping process where tone, sustain and texture are refined through repeated strikes. The seven-metal alloy draws on long-established Himalayan metallurgical practices, historically linked to planetary symbolism.

Bowl No.046 was made in Nepal by experienced artisan metalworkers working within a lineage of craftsmanship passed down over generations. Formed by hand rather than cast by machine, each bowl carries its own individual voice and surface character. This piece has been individually selected and recorded by Siesta Crafts as part of our ethically sourced collection of Himalayan sound instruments. We work with suppliers who engage directly with Nepali craftspeople and uphold Fair Trade principles, helping to support sustainable, small-scale production.
