About this product

This disc bag is made with traditional Guatemalan 'Jaspe' textiles, in a curved shape with black trim and a long strap for wearing across the body or over the shoulder. Two internal zipped compartments keep your everyday essentials organised and secure.

The bag takes its name from its shape and original use: the compact, curved pouch was originally designed to hold a small, crocheted flying disc, much like a frisbee. These - often crocheted - discs have been a popular game amongst Guatemalan children since the mid-2000's. Its fabric is jaspe, a traditional Guatemalan resist-dyeing technique known internationally as ikat, where patterns are tied and dyed into the yarn before weaving.

Handmade in Guatemala, this piece has been sourced through Fair Trade principles. By purchasing it, you support small-scale artisans and communities continuing to honour their roots through traditional methods and designs, keeping their crafts and values alive.
