About this product

This small figurine depicts the Xoloitzcuintle - the Mexican hairless dog. The name derives from "Xolotl" (the Aztec god of the underworld) and "itzcuintli" (the Aztec word for dog), and is affectionately known as Xolo. It is believed, according to Aztec legend, that the Xolo came to be when Xolotl (the god of death) created a dog from the Bone of Life. Xolotl gave the dog to man who was told to fiercely guard it. In exchange the dog would guide Man to the heavens.

Armando

Meet the maker: Armando

Based in Texcoco, Mexico

Armando produces traditional 'barro' style pottery from his small workshop in Texcoco. We first encountered Armando and the Balderas market in Mexico City as he sold his wares to the stall holders. We've since visited his home, shared some sudadero tacos and developed a whole range of beautifully rustic ceramic pieces together.
